In what capacity do you serve ACA Illinois?
ASSOCIATE VISITOR

How long have you been a volunteer for ACA Illinois?
THIS WILL BE MY SECOND SEASON

What drew you to getting involved in ACA Illinois?
DAVE FROM TAMARAK SAID I’D MAKE A GREAT VISITOR, SO I SAID YES WHEN THE EMAIL CAME OUT

What would you tell someone who was thinking about getting involved?
DO IT – I’VE GAINED A HUGE APPRECIATION FOR THE PROCESS OF ACCREDITATION, NOT JUST THE WHY, BUT THE WAYS IT REALLY DOES HELP KEEP CAMPS SAFE, STRONG, AND SOMEPLACE THAT FAMILIES SHOULD TRUST SENDING THEIR CHILDREN.  AND I’VE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM EACH & EVERY TRAINING I HAVE ATTENDED.

What is the best part about volunteering for ACA Illinois?
MEETING PEOPLE WHO DO WHAT I DO, AND LOVE DOING IT.  LEARNING HOW OTHER CAMPS MEET STANDARDS, AND LEARNING HOW MUCH ACA IL DEPENDS ON VOLUNTEERS TO GET CAMPS VISITED.

What is the most challenging part serving for ACA Illinois?
THE FACT THAT CAMP VISITS HAPPEN IN THE SUMMER WHEN MY OWN CAMP IS RUNNING, SO I WISH I COULD GET AWAY MORE TO VISIT MORE CAMPS, BUT I’M LIMITED

What camp are you currently working at or are associated with?
CAMP CBG AT THE CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDEN

What is your role at your camp?
CAMP DIRECTOR (BY ACA STANDARDS)

Tell us a little about your camp?
Camp CBG’s tagline is “Where Science, Nature, and Fun Meet!” he Chicago Botanic Garden’s signature day camp provides exciting, fun, and enriching outdoor learning experiences for your child, with programs for children ages 6 months to 15 years old. Science, nature, art, ecology, and cooking camps draw kids from Chicago and the North Shore suburbs, including surrounding areas of Glencoe, Highland Park, Deerfield, Northbrook, and Winnetka. Camp CBG offers morning and afternoon camps, supervised lunch, and full-day camps to give parents flexible scheduling options. Spend a week or the whole summer at the Garden.  Our instructors are highly qualified, and many have been teaching with Camp CBG for more than five years. All staff members participate in annual training, are first-aid certified, and love teaching.

What do you enjoy doing in your freetime?
Mom of two kiddos who LOVE being outdoors (even when it is FREEZING), cook, read, play tennis, and being a “tourist” in Chicago whenever I can do so.
